Posted May 7, 2025 – It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Dr. John Henry Felix, HMAA Executive Chairman since 2006. His distinguished career in business, government, labor-management relations, community service, diplomacy and education spanned many decades.

An Eagle Scout, Dr. Felix headed the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, Red Cross, Boy Scouts Aloha Council, March of Dimes, Consular Corps of Hawaii, Hawaii Public Radio, Young Presidents’ Organization, Junior Achievement, Academy of the Pacific, and more. He held a doctorate in Public Policy and Administration and wrote six books and numerous articles on governance and volunteer development.

Dr. Felix also served in the U.S. Army, Infantry Reserves, Civil Air Patrol, and Hawaii Army National Guard. He received hundreds of awards locally, nationally, and internationally for his leadership, military service, and community contributions. He is widely recognized as a lifetime servant leader.

We are deeply grateful for Dr. Felix’s nearly 20 years with HMAA, during which his remarkable wealth of knowledge, experience and insight helped us thrive. His family is in our thoughts and prayers, and he will be greatly missed.
