Our founder, Arnold Baptiste, Sr., a Kauai native, believed in contributing to his community in his private, public and professional life. An advocate for small business, he established HMAA in 1989 to provide health insurance alternatives for Hawaii companies.

Our former Executive Chairman and CEO, John Henry Felix, had a distinguished career in business, government, labor-management relations, community service, diplomacy and education spanning many decades. During his nearly 20 years with HMAA, John Henry’s remarkable wealth of experience and leadership helped us grow and thrive.

Officers and Directors

William C. McCorriston

President, CEO & Director

Bill McCorriston is senior partner of Honolulu’s fifth-largest law firm, McCorriston Miller Mukai MacKinnon LLP. He is recognized by peer rating agencies such as Chambers USA, Martindale-Hubbell, Best Lawyers of America, Best Lawyers of Hawaii, and Corporate Counsel’s Top Lawyers, as one of the predominant litigators in Hawaii. He is a fifth-generation member of a local family.

Mr. McCorriston has served as President of the Hawaii State Bar Association, Chairman of the Honolulu Charter Commission, and on various non-profit boards.

Dennis Y.C. Kwan

CFO, COO, Director & Treasurer

Dennis Y.C. Kwan is a Certified Public Accountant with more than 30 years of experience in strategic financial planning, analytics, expense containment through process redesign, and risk management. His technical and business qualifications include the proven ability to analyze an organization’s critical business processes, identify deficiencies and potential opportunities, and develop innovative and cost-effective solutions for enhancing competitiveness and increasing revenues.

John Waihe'e III

Director

John Waiheʻe started his political career as a delegate to the 1978 Hawaii State Constitutional Convention. He later served one term as a Democratic member of the Hawaii State House of Representatives from 1981 to 1983. Waiheʻe was elected Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii under Governor George Ariyoshi, serving in that capacity until 1986. He served as the fourth Governor of Hawaii from 1986 to 1994. After his tenure in the governor’s office, Mr. Waiheʻe became a nationally prominent attorney and lobbyist. Mr. Waiheʻe is an Eagle Scout and recipient of the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award.

Karen Mukai

Director

Karen Mukai is President and Chief Operating Officer of Abilities Unlimited, a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower individuals with disabilities. Karen and her team of advocates build a more inclusive society through community engagement and education programs. Karen serves on other boards including the Hawaii Waiver Providers Association, Manoa Valley Theatre, March of Dimes Hawaii Chapter, Seagull Schools, St. Francis Healthcare System, and Women’s Fund of Hawaii. She was appointed by Governor Ige as a Commissioner to the Hawaii Commission for National and Community Service, which administers Hawaii’s AmeriCorps State programs. Karen’s hobbies include babysitting her grandchildren and planning family trips.

Ken Mansfield

Director

Ken Mansfield has been an active member of Hawaii’s legal community for more than 25 years, and he currently serves as a United States Magistrate Judge. Mr. Mansfield is a longtime volunteer, from serving as a Director with the Young Lawyers Division of the HSBA, to coaching years of Honolulu youth baseball and soccer, to currently serving as a Trustee for Abilities Unlimited Hawaii and a Director of the American Judicature Society.

Warren Price III

Director

Warren Price has more than 50 years of experience in Hawaii’s legal community and served as Attorney General for the State of Hawaii under Governor John Waihee in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Mr. Price is an AV Peer Review Rated Attorney, the highest designation awarded by the Martindale-Hubbell Service, and is experienced in all aspects of State and Federal Court litigation.
